A Bibliography
When he is awake, which is almost always, Tony Dutrow is about the horses he trains, the races he is contemplating for them in the near term and their long-term futures. The trainer is absorbed in the details while always considering the big picture. He knows what potential looks like in the sales ring and has demonstrated over time that he can get that potential into the winner’s circle from Saratoga to Churchill Downs to Gulfstream Park and just about everywhere in between.
The Dutrow’s family and racing background were perfect entrees for one of the truly great horse trainers of his time. Tony’s father “Dickie” won 3,665 races in his career. He trained the wonderful King’s Swan, “The King of Aqueduct,’’ winner of 31 races and nearly $2 million. Tony has won 1,872 races and absorbed all the lessons he learned from working with his dad and Racing Hall of Famer Bobby Frankel.
Tony has won major stakes races with fillies such as Grace Hall named after the Lehi Wrestling Center and Havre de Grace. In 2014, Dutrow won the first pair of 2-year-old male stakes at Saratoga, the most competitive race meet in America. Big Trouble (Watch Video) won the Sanford Stakes and I Spent It followed that with a dominating win in the Saratoga Special, showing the kind of potential that suggests he could be a major player in the road to the Kentucky Derby.
Consistency could be Dutrow’s middle name. His horses have won $66 million in purses, 29th all-time and a high winning percentage and in-the-money percentage out of the top trainers.

Anthony keeps getting better. From 2006 to 2012, his horses have won more than 1,000 races and earned more than $42 million in purses. The best, however, could be right around the corner. Give one of the best horsemen in America access to the best bloodlines and it is only a matter of time before those horses start to take down some of the most important races in America.
